The River Ganges, is considered to be the most pious rivers in india. it is the most significant river having many religious and cultural mythologies tied to its name. it is undoubtedly the most celebrated rivers of india. people in india worship goddess[1] ganga and therefore it is eventually not just a river but a way of life.

it originates at the confluence of bhagirathi and alaknanda river at Devprayag Devprayag, Devprayag (Devaprayag) (Devanagari: ??? ??????) is a town and a nagar panchayat (municipality) in Tehri Garhwal district[1][2] in the state of Uttarakhand, India, and is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of Alaknanda River where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet and take the name Ganga or Ganges River."Devaprayaga" means "Godly Confluence" in Sanskrit. As per Hindu scriptures, Devaprayaga is the sacred event of merging two heavenly rivers, Alakananda and Bhagirathi, to form the holy Ganges. One of the most adventurous such activity includes trekking. Source of Ganges Trek is not only about just trekking but it also helps one to understand the grounded religious sentiments attached with this pious river.

Source of Ganges Trek is a moderate trek in the garhwal region of indian state uttrakhand. the best season for this trek is from may to october. the trek begins from a place called Gangotri Gangotri, Gangotri (Hindi: ????????) is a town and a Nagar Panchayat (municipality) in Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is a Hindu pilgrim town on the banks of the river Bhagirathi and origin of River Ganges. It is on the Greater Himalayan Range, at a height of 3,100m. Says Wikipedia

it's the origin of bhagirathi river which is one of the confluents of ganges. it is considered to the most sacred town and a pilgrimage[2] place as well. it can be reached by road from mussorie via uttktrishi. from gangotri[3] the main trek starts. its at an elevation of approximately 3048 mtrs. from gangotri the trekkers proceed to a place called chirbasa or bhojbasa covering a distance of approximately 13 km. it is all surrounded by dense deodar forests. from bhojbasa the trekkers traverse through wild flowers studded with meadows to reach a place called Gaumukh. since Gaumukh is one of the major pilgrimages of india, this trek is often connoted as gaumukh trek.

From gaumukh the trekkers reach to the place known as Tapovan. the track this trek follows during this traversal is not the predictable course it was following from Gangotri to bhojbasa and from bhojbasa to gaumukh. the track is somewhat steep climbing up to the vast valley of tapovan. there are two places meru glacier and Kirti Bamak Kirti Bamak, Trek to the North of Mt. Shivling (6543 mts) peak takes on e to Meru Bamak (glacier), and another trek to the Kirti Bamak (Glacier) to the South.

they stay at this place to visit these two places and then head off to nandavan. this place offers spectacular view of the himalayan region and all the confluences which occur. from Nandavan the trekkers head to the vasuki tal which is a beautiful lake parallel to chaturangi glacier. from Vasuki Tal Vasuki Tal, Vasuki Tal in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand in India is the enchanting lake where thousands of adventurer tourists throng every year.Tapovan Nandanvan trek starting from Gangotri via Gomukh (Gaumukh) can be extended to include Kirti Bamak and Vasuki Tal (Vasuki Taal) trekkers return to Gaumukh and then finally to gangotri completing the Gaumukh trek much popularly known as the source of ganges trek.

It is undoubtedly one of the largest treks in Garhwal reigon but is not very much tiresome because of the camp settings and arrangements done throughout the trek. the experience of exploring the himalayas amid the sources of ganges is worth every challenge that one has to pass through in this long trek.
