Dodital, as the name suggests is a tal, a beautiful lake in the indian state of uttrakhand. it is located at an elevation of approximately 3024 meters. to have a glance of this alluring lake, one has to undertake a trek of nearly 21km beginning from sangamchatti. this is regarded as one of the most amiable treks that this himalayan region offers. Along with Chandrashilla Summit Trek, Har ki Doon Trek and many others this is also a moderate trek on the gradient level. but offcourse it covers a long distance as compared to the other tw Himalayas Himalaya, The Himalayas are bordered on the north by the Tibetan Plateau, on the south by the Indo-Gangetic Plain, on the northwest by the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, and on the east by the Indian states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Dodital is said to be the birthplace of lord ganesha, son of lord shiva. it is also said that this place has witnessed the beheading of lord ganesha by lord shiva. this place is usually regarded as the abode of lord ganesha. it becomes a reason for the followers of lord ganesha to visit this spectacular and beautiful place.

It is the district headquarters of Uttarkashi district. Uttarkashi is situated on the banks of river Bhagirathi at an altitude of 1352 m above sea level. Uttarkashi is home to a number of ashrams and temples and also to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. The name of the town reflects its similarity to and location (as north of) the city of Kashi (Varanasi). Similar to Varanasi, town of Uttarkashi is situated on the Ganges, lies next to a hill named Varun Parvat, on confluence of two rivers Varuna and Asi, has a ghat called Manikarnika Ghat and has a temple dedicated to Shiva (Kashi Vishwanath Temple) in the center of the town. Says Wikipedia . from sangamchatti trekkers traverse through ageora village to reach bebra. proper campsities and halt options are available in both these villages. then after resting trek is again started off from bebra to reach manjhi and finally after covering approximately 21 km trekkers finally reach to their final destination dodital.

Dodital Trek is fully surrounded by the thick forests of oak trees making it a paradise for flora and fauna lovers. the view is extremely alluring and in winters traversing through these snow capped trees and mountains makes the journey all the more adventurous.
